Not a lot of travelers know about this location but Redcliffe, just 30 kilometres further north of Brisbane city is a blissful place to hangout. Within short drive away from Brisbane citys hustle and bustle is the delightful getaway hub of Redcliffe. It is a coastal residential suburb of the Moreton Bay Region in the east north-east of the Redcliffe peninsula. This small seaside town of Redcliffe is a popular seaside holiday destination for many holiday makers, especially Brisbane residents. Life is a little more relaxing than Brisbane city. Untouched by mass tourism and developments, this town is a place where you can still feel and taste the real relaxing atmosphere of Redcliffe. This place has a change of rule, where the cuisine is ingrained in the laid back cultural lifestyle and where the daily rhythm has largely resisted the pressures of modern city life. Redcliffe landscape is a diverse mixture of beautiful coastlines, cliff-drops and some of the most beautiful beaches you have ever laid eyes on. This small seaside township is very popular getaway destination among interstate visitors and Brisbane city residents who want to escape the busy city lifestyle.
My time in Redcliffe
It is no secret, why I am in Redcliffe for a relaxing getaway from a busy touristy regional city of Cairns. I am sitting in this fancy waterfront cafe on the main strip, having my mochacino with a raisin toast looking out to the vast blue ocean of Moreton Peninsula saying to myself – what a wonderful place to be. I am so privileged to be here enjoying this place.
From the moment I arrived in this charming town of Redcliffe, I knew I was in for a truly special experience. This hidden gem nestled by the seaside has a certain allure that captivates the senses. The air is filled with cool sea breeze, and the beauty of the views looking out to the open sea takes your breath away.
Redcliffe offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, making it a haven for travelers like me, seeking a more laid-back getaway. Whether I prefer to stroll leisurely along the picturesque promenade, taking in the panoramic views of the glistening waters, or immerse myself in the town’s rich history and culture, there is something here for me to enjoy.
One of the things that struck me most about Redcliffe is its ability to offer a wide range of activities without compromising its tranquil atmosphere. I spent most of my time exploring the local art galleries, browsing the unique boutique shops, and simply savoring the flavors of the delicious coastal cuisine that the town is known for. The range of activities available in Redcliffe is abundant, making it convenient for travelers. Exploring the historical treasures at the museum provides insight into the captivating past of Redcliffe. The area offers access to vintage movies, art galleries, the Bee Gees’ history, and the opportunity to observe whales and dolphins. With waterfront restaurants, weekend markets, and annual festivals, Redcliffe is a must-visit destination for families and sun-seekers.
As an adventure seeking enthusiast, Redcliffe is also home to a variety of outdoor activities. I embarked on a scenic hike along the magnificent coastal trails, where every step offered breathtaking vistas of the rugged cliffs and crystal-clear waters. Also, I tried my hand at water sports such as kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding, allowing me to experience the town’s beauty from a completely different perspective.
Getting there?
Getting there, it is completely feasible to reach Redcliffe using public transportation, including coaches, buses, or trains. The most convenient method is by train from Brisbane. Taking the Redcliffe Peninsula Train from Roma Street Station in Brisbane city to Kippa-Ring Station will take approximately one hour. Additionally, there are several local transport operators in Redcliffe, such as Point-to-Point Express, RedAir Transfers, or Chauffeur Me. You can find the train timetables here and the bus timetables here. However, I would suggest considering hiring a car to explore Redcliffe at your own pace.
Personally, I chose self-drive option after arriving at Brisbane airport. Traveling to Redcliffe by car was relatively straightforward for me, but I have discovered that during peak hours, traffic can result in a slower drive, potentially taking up to nearly an hour. Along the way, I enjoyed a scenic drive, providing ample time to explore various parks and swampy lands through well-maintained boardwalks. I was pleasantly surprised by the abundant wetland bird life in the area.
My must “see and do”
Redcliffe, a seaside town located within proximity to iconic Moreton Island and Brisbane city has blossomed into a festive town. It is an ideal place for families and even adults. There are many activities to enjoy from mouth watering seafood restaurants, historic walks to beautiful beaches.
My idea of escaping to a relaxing getaway hub is not only lying around by the poolside with a wide selection of mouthwatering cocktails but discovering myself and doing things at my own pace and time. My favourite fun time was cycling along the 35 kilometres foreshore of well-built pathways and scenic bikeways stretching from Scarborough all the way down to Clontarf. The cool breeze, jaw-dropping cliff drops and the stunning views made cycling worthwhile. I had to stop every few minutes to enjoy the views.
Bee Gees Way
One of the highlights of my time in Redcliffe was definitely taking a leisurely stroll along the enchanting memory lane known as Bee Gees Way. As I walked along this pathway, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of reverence for the incredible musical legacy that the Bee Gees left behind.
It was an awe-inspiring experience to immerse myself in the captivating stories and the timeless melodies of the Bee Gees. The walls of Bee Gees Way seemed to come alive as video screens showcased footage of their iconic performances, concert tours, and personal interviews. I found myself transported back in time, reliving the moments that shaped the history of music.
As I ventured further along, I was overcome with a surreal feeling. The atmosphere reminded me of walking along the vibrant streets of Memphis, Tennessee, the birthplace of countless musical legends. The energy and excitement that permeated Bee Gees Way brought to mind the iconic strip of Memphis, with its rich history of rhythm and blues, soulful melodies, and heartfelt lyrics.
I couldn’t help but be mesmerized by the incredible talent and the profound impact that the Bee Gees had on the music industry. Their harmonies were unparalleled, and their songwriting prowess was second to none. Their music, with its distinctive disco beats and heartfelt lyrics, resonated with people around the world and continues to do so to this day.
As I strolled along Bee Gees Way, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible journey the Bee Gees embarked on, from their humble beginnings in Redcliffe to becoming global music superstars. Their story served as a testament to the power and enduring influence of passion, dedication, and artistic vision.
Walking alongside the images and memorabilia that adorned Bee Gees Way, I felt a sense of gratitude for being able to witness and appreciate the remarkable contributions of the Bee Gees. Redcliffe Jetty
Redcliffe Jetty is an iconic landmark that allows visitors to truly immerse themselves in the coastal atmosphere. As you walk along this historic jetty, the invigorating sea spray kisses your face, creating a sense of connection with the vast expanse of the ocean. It is not only a picturesque location, but also a perfect spot to witness the breathtaking beauty of both sunrise and sunset.
For those seeking romance, the jetty offers a romantic setting for a leisurely stroll hand in hand with your loved one. The calming sound of the waves crashing against the pillared structure creates a soothing ambiance, making it an ideal place for couples to unwind and cherish each other’s company.
But the Redcliffe Jetty is not only a place for couples; it holds something for everyone. Fishing enthusiasts are drawn to this spot, as they can cast their lines into the water and hope to reel in a catch. Apart from the jetty, Redcliffe also boasts the magnificent Botanical Garden. Here, you can immerse yourself in the symphony of bird calls that fill the air. The garden is a sanctuary for wildlife, hosting a resident flying fox colony and providing a haven for over 500 species of herbs. Each step through its tranquil paths leads to the discovery of different areas devoted to various species of plants, showcasing the rich diversity of nature.
Settlemen Cove
But Redcliffe’s attractions extend beyond natural beauty alone. Families in search of fun and relaxation find solace in Settlement Cove, a sprawling swimming area reminiscent of an upmarket resort. This pristine location offers a perfect blend of crystal-clear waters and a well-equipped play park adjacent to it. Whether you wish to take a refreshing dip in the water or simply bask in the sun while your children play, Settlement Cove provides a great place for a fun-filled family day out.
Redcliffe Market
And if you happen to visit Redcliffe on a Sunday, you won’t want to miss the vibrant and lively Redcliffe Jetty Markets. As you wander through the waterfront area, the atmosphere is alive with the sights, sounds, and aromas of the market. From freshly cooked delicacies to unique arts and crafts, the market offers a vast variety of stalls where you can indulge in delicious food and find one-of-a-kind treasures. In addition, talented buskers entertain visitors with their melodic tunes, adding to the festive ambience of the market.
Leisure stroll
Across from waterfront cafes and shops is Redcliffe’s main beach features picnic areas and with plenty of pine trees hugging the back of the beach, providing shade as well as a picturesque backdrop. I spend most of my time relaxing stroll along the promenade. The jetty is a great spot and very popular for taking a walk along and simply enjoying the morning sunrise and evening sunset.
Scenic Drive
As usual, I wanted to explore more of the seaside suburbs closer to Redcliffe. Within a quick 10-15 minutes drive from main hub of Redcliffe, I found yourself in a number of few beachside suburbs in Redcliffe area. Some of the pathways hangs precariously close to the edge of the sea cliffs it’s built on.
Margate, Woody Point, and Clontarf are charming coastal suburbs located in the vibrant Redcliffe Peninsula region of Queensland, Australia. Each of these areas boasts its own unique character and attractions that make them popular destinations for both residents and visitors alike.
Margate
Let’s start with Margate, a picturesque suburb that showcases stunning ocean views and a laid-back atmosphere. With its beautiful sandy beaches and well-maintained parks, Margate offers the perfect setting for leisurely walks, picnics, or simply soaking up the sunshine. The iconic Margate Jetty provides a fantastic spot for fishing enthusiasts to cast their lines or for those who simply wish to enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
Woody Point
Next up is Woody Point, another charming seaside gem that sits adjacent to Margate. Known for its breathtaking views of Moreton Bay and the Glass House Mountains, Woody Point offers an abundance of outdoor activities and waterfront dining options. The Woody Point Jetty is a popular spot for fishing, and the nearby parks provide a peaceful retreat for families to enjoy nature or have a BBQ.
Clontarf
Lastly, we have Clontarf, a suburb renowned for its fantastic foreshore and recreational facilities. Clontarf Beach is a favorite among locals and visitors, providing a safe and pristine location for swimming, kayaking, and other water sports. The extensive path network that runs along the coastline is perfect for cyclists, runners, or those who simply want to take a leisurely stroll while taking in the scenic beauty of the area.
In addition to their natural beauty, these suburbs offer a range of amenities including shopping centers, restaurants, and cafes, ensuring that residents and visitors have access to all the necessary conveniences. The local communities are friendly and welcoming, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for everyone.

Where to stay?
Redcliffe is a town that have various types of accommodation to suit all budget raining from resorts, backpack, holiday houses, apartments and units, B&Bs, caravans and camp grounds. The range of accommodations throughout Redcliffe fit most holiday styles and budgets.
To fully maximize my experience in Redcliffe and immerse myself in its intriguing charms, I opted to stay in one of the self-contained units located in Scarborough. Conveniently situated within a short walking distance from the bustling beachfront shops, cafes, restaurants, and the town center, this choice allowed me to make the most of the town’s attractions.
During my stay, I relied on the local public bus service as a commendable mode of transportation, utilizing it on a daily basis. Fortunately, most of the places I wished to visit, including the beach, restaurants, and cafes, were within a pleasant walking distance. By doing so, I avoided the unnecessary hassle of dealing with the traffic generated by the locals’ daily commutes. Additionally, this approach provided me with the opportunity to savor the authentic local lifestyle and the town’s inherent beauty.
I wholeheartedly believe that this particular approach offers the finest way to truly grasp the essence of Redcliffe and serves as an excellent introduction to the area and the distinctive way of life that characterizes it.
Redcliffe is a coastal destination that caters to a range of interests and pleasures. Whether you seek a romantic escape, a nature-filled retreat, family-friendly activities, or an opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture, Redcliffe has it all.
