Washington DC stands as a unique destination, offering unparalleled views and a wealth of cost-free activities. Visitors can partake in exceptional performing arts at renowned theaters, explore the historic district of Georgetown, and savor the vibrant dining scene that the city has to offer.
Getting there?
My trip began in Brisbane, Australia, where I eagerly embarked on my long-awaited journey to Washington DC, USA. Flying with Qantas airlines, the anticipation and excitement in the air were tangible as fellow travelers from all corners of the world gathered at the airport, ready to embark on their own unique adventures.
As I stepped onto the plane, the friendly flight attendants greeted me with warm smiles, providing a sense of comfort and hospitality. The spacious cabin and comfortable seats ensured a pleasant and enjoyable flight experience. While soaring through the skies, I couldn’t help but marvel at the breathtaking aerial views of the vast Pacific Ocean below.
During the long flight to Los Angeles, I made sure to prioritize rest as much as possible. It’s important to find ways to relax and unwind while in the air, as it can help alleviate any potential fatigue upon arrival. I took advantage of the comfortable seating, perhaps enjoying a good book or watching a few movies to keep myself entertained during the journey. Additionally, staying hydrated is crucial, so I made sure to drink plenty of water throughout the flight. By taking these small steps, I was able to make the most of my time onboard and arrived in Los Angeles feeling refreshed and ready for the adventures that awaited me.
Los Angeles
Upon reaching Los Angeles, I decided to take some time to unwind and explore the city. The vibrant atmosphere and diverse culture of this bustling metropolis offered an array of experiences to indulge in. I spent a few days relaxing in a luxurious hotel resort, basking under the Californian sun and rejuvenating by the poolside. In between rejuvenating sessions, I ventured out to visit some newfound places of interest that I had not previously had the chance to explore during my previous visits to the city.
With each passing day, I became captivated by the mesmerizing blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty that Los Angeles had to offer. From strolling along the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame to experiencing the vibrant nightlife in West Hollywood, I immersed myself in the vibrant spirit of the city.
After a few days of rejuvenating and indulging in the sights and sounds of my previous destination, I eagerly embarked on the next leg of my journey. Boarding my flight with Delta Airways, I found myself caught in the anticipation of the adventure that awaited me in Washington DC. The thought of exploring this remarkable city for a duration of 7 days overwhelmed me with excitement.
As the plane soared through the vast skies, I couldn’t help but marvel at the breathtaking aerial views. The sprawling landscapes gradually transformed into an urban tapestry as we approached our destination. Arriving at Washington DC, I was immediately captivated by the vibrant energy that engulfed the city.
Washington DC Experience
Planning my trip to the nation’s capital, Washington DC, was an adventure in itself. After spending enjoyable moments in Los Angeles, I continue my journey to Washington DC, the heart of the United States. As I embark on this journey, my mind was filled with excitement and anticipation, eager to explore everything this historic city has to offer.
Stepping off the plane, I was immediately greeted by the historical charm and grandeur of the capital city. From the iconic landmarks such as the White House and the Capitol Building to the vibrant neighborhoods like Georgetown and Dupont Circle, Washington DC was a treasure trove of history, culture, political significance and incredible sights waiting to be discovered.
Renowned as one of the most visited cities in the United States, Washington DC has always been a top destination for travelers seeking a blend of education and exploration. With its rich heritage and significance in shaping the nation, this great city offers a plethora of interesting experiences unrivaled by any other.
Exploring the city’s renowned museums and art galleries, I delved into the rich heritage and captivating stories of the nation. Walking along the National Mall, I marveled at the majestic Lincoln Memorial and the solemn Vietnam Veterans Memorial, paying homage to the brave men and women who have shaped America’s history.
As I strolled through the charming streets and neighborhoods, I couldn’t help but be enchanted by the vibrant energy and diversity that permeated the city. Getting Around?
Washington DC is a city that exudes a palpable sense of power and history. Upon arrival, I immediately felt the weight of its significance as a metropolis. The accessibility of this city is exceptional; one can effortlessly explore its many attractions and landmarks on foot. DC is renowned for being the home of some of the most iconic buildings, monuments, and memorials in the world. Moreover, it boasts an impressive collection of world-class museums, many of which offer free admission to the public. In terms of American history, Washington DC truly encapsulates its essence.

As I made the decision to explore the city more conveniently than relying solely on walking, I opted for the Capital Bikeshare program. This initiative allowed me to navigate through the bustling streets of Washington DC effortlessly, without the need for petrol or being subjected to the annoyances of traffic congestion. Commencing my tour at the iconic National Mall, I was greeted by a plethora of significant monuments, solemn memorials, and imposing government buildings, diverting my attention from the usual array of shopping establishments. Further along, I made a visit to the illustrious Watergate Hotel and Kennedy Centre, before making a brief stop at the charming district of Foggy Bottom. Progressing towards Georgetown, the oldest district in the city, I found myself immersed in the elegant ambiance of 18th-century architecture, complemented by the presence of the esteemed university. After a short pause at the National Cathedral, I proceeded to the Smithsonian Zoo, a delightful haven for families with young children and those of us who remain forever young at heart.
I was astounded to discover that Washington D.C is home to nearly 20 Smithsonian Museums, with the majority of them offering free admission to the public. These museums provide an exceptional experience for people of all ages, from adults to children. The Air and Space Museum, National Museum of American History, Natural History Museum, and American Indian Museum are just a few examples of the remarkable institutions in this district. Despite spending countless hours at each museum, I still couldn’t manage to see everything during my entire vacation. Exploring these renowned establishments is an essential part of my visit to this exceptional city.



As I explored these museums, I grew increasingly curious and felt a strong inclination to channel my inner 007. My destination was the International Spy Museum, an extraordinary establishment that left me utterly awestruck. Here, I delved deep into the world of covert operations and intelligence agencies that have profoundly influenced our global landscape. The experience was nothing short of surreal. And of course, no visit to Washington D.C. can be complete without beholding the venerable White House. I ensured that it held a prominent position on my “must-see” itinerary, allowing me to appreciate the grandiosity and historical significance of this esteemed landmark.

It is widely recognized across the world as one of the country’s most prominent icons of Democracy. The magnificent structure, situated atop Capital Hill, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the awe-inspiring Washington Monument and the various memorials, monuments, and buildings that line the iconic Mall.

With its striking white dome, the Capitol Building serves as a captivating focal point, drawing in thousands of visitors each year. Stepping inside this historic landmark, I embarked on a guided tour that provided me with a remarkable glimpse into how the United States government operates. The tour, available throughout the day, allowed me to explore the intricate inner workings of this renowned building, unveiling the dynamic processes that drive the American political system.

As I entered the White House Visitor Centre, I was immediately captivated by the wealth of information it offered. The Visitor Centre served as a hub of knowledge, where I learned about the intriguing history of the White House, the distinguished first families who have called it home, and the remarkable architectural features that make it such an extraordinary symbol of American democracy.
Inside, the tour offered an up-close encounter with the exquisite furnishings that adorn the various rooms. From the opulent state dining room to the iconic Oval Office, each space contained its own stories and significance. Walking through these halls, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of reverence and admiration for the leaders who have occupied these spaces throughout the years.

As I wandered through the seemingly endless rows of tombstones, each one a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by over 250,000 men and women who served in the U.S. Military, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming mix of emotions. The weight of history and the profound impact of their contributions to our nation’s freedom and security became palpable with each step.
Amidst this sacred landscape, I encountered the iconic Tomb of the Unknowns, a place of eternal tribute to the fallen soldiers whose identities remain anonymous. Standing there, I witnessed the meticulous and disciplined changing of the guard, a solemn ceremony that takes place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, regardless of weather conditions. It was a powerful reminder of the selflessness and dedication of those who have given their all for our country.
In my exploration of Arlington National Cemetery, I also had the opportunity to pay my respects at the Eternal Flame, which marks the final resting place of President John F. Kennedy. This symbol of eternal remembrance not only honors the legacy of a beloved leader but also represents the eternal flames of hope, resilience, and inspiration that continue to burn bright within our nation.

Moreover, I took a moment to visit the Arlington House, a stately mansion nestled within the grounds. This historic landmark serves as a tribute to General Robert E.
