After spending a significant amount of time residing in northern Queensland, I found myself longing for a visit to this serene and relaxed destination just south of the Queensland border. Located a mere 15 minutes away from the Gold Coast airport in the Northern Rivers Region, it was about time to explore the natural beauty of this captivating area. Kingscliff, a charming coastal town, offers an abundance of options to cater to diverse budgets, preferences, and vacation styles.
As I stepped off the plane at Brisbane Airport, I was greeted by the crisp, smoky air of Brisbane city. It provided a welcome respite from the confines of the airplane cabin. Waste no time, I swiftly gathered my belongings and embarked on the “Freeway” towards Goldcoast. After a short drive beyond Surfers Paradise, the bustling heart of Goldcoast, I paused to indulge in a delectable serving of takeaway fish and chips by the seaside. With my hunger sated, I resumed my journey to Kingscliff, a mere 15-minute drive from the Queensland border, just south of Tweed Heads.
If you’ve been to Kingscliff, you will know what seaside lifestyle is like. It is what you might imagine paradise to look like. Beautiful and deserted beaches, scrubs and forests perfectly lay along the coastline, rolling sand dunes that give way to long stretches of pristine beaches and the vast blue ocean beyond.
To many vacationers, this enchanting part of Northern New South Wales has always been esteemed as a hidden treasure. A trip to Kingscliff, a charming coastal town situated in the north of New South Wales, will swiftly make evident the reasons behind this reputation. Tucked between the Tweed River (whose estuary lies further north at Tweed Heads) and a breathtaking expanse of beaches that stretch from Cabarita in the south to Fingal Head in the north, Kingscliff presents an idyllic backdrop that is incredibly alluring.

Getting around in Kingscliff was incredibly convenient, with everything I needed just a short walk away. I didn’t have to use my car at all during my stay at the holiday apartment. The town’s main street was bustling with lively cafes and restaurants, offering a plethora of dinner options to choose from. However, I decided to conclude my eventful day with the timeless classic of fish and chips.
From the observations I have made, the experiences I have had, and the conversations I have had with tourists in various establishments such as cafes, restaurants, and pubs, it is clear that this destination is highly favored and cherished by many, year after year. Not only does it captivate the hearts of visitors, but it also holds a special place in the hearts of the locals. I personally chose to visit this place with the intention of seeking a peaceful and secluded retreat, and it did not fail to amaze me wherever I went. The allure of this destination is truly remarkable.
To fully indulge in my stay in Kingscliff and maximize my experience of the town’s attractions, I chose to extend my visit for ten days. This ample duration allowed me to bask in the sun, enjoy the sandy beaches, and ride the waves, while also exploring the captivating sights that exude a relaxed ambiance. Without a doubt, this is where the true essence of Kingscliff unveils itself. I opted to reside in one of the beachfront apartments, mere meters away from the shore, boasting private gardens that offered scenic views of the endless ocean. It was the perfect retreat. The spaciousness of the accommodation allowed me to cherish the serene atmosphere, providing an ideal introduction to the area. I comprehended why the locals adore this place, as many have never felt the need to depart from or relocate outside of this charming town.
The township of Kingscliff is within close proximately to a number of beachside towns including Hasting Point and Portsville which have endless attractions on what to see and do. They all have its own unique stunning views of beautiful beaches, lookouts, camping sites, boardwalks and parklands. Many visitors come here to enjoy the sun, sand and surf in a more laid-back relaxing atmosphere.
For those visitors wanting to explore and enjoy more of the towns lifestyle and surrounding countryside, take time to stay a little longer and you will appreciate what this laid-back beachside town and its surrounding has to offer. Remember to stay longer and enjoy it more.
