Where the cruise begins
It is almost a decade ago when I had my first and last cruise in 2010. I had the pleasure of embarking on a journey around the Caribbean Islands aboard the esteemed Royal Caribbean Cruises’ “Allure of the Seas”. Currently, I am fortunate to be experiencing a Trans-Pacific cruise on the renowned “Radiance of the Seas”, also operated by Royal Caribbean Cruises. This particular voyage offers an unrivaled cruising experience, characterized by the elegance and spaciousness that radiate throughout the ship. With its expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, grand nine-storey central atrium, sea-facing elevators, and vast open areas, Radiance of the Seas promises to captivate me with its awe-inspiring panoramas throughout the entirety of my journey.

I have have the opportunity to explore stunning countries and exotic islands aboard the splendid Radiance of the Seas. This vibrant cruise ship offers guests a wide array of amenities, boasting over 15 restaurants and captivating entertainment options throughout the day and evening. It is an ideal combination for those seeking to discover paradise while indulging in luxurious style, creating memories that will endure indefinitely.
Embarking on this extensive voyage, this particular cruise proved to be the lengthiest I have embarked upon thus far. It presented an opportunity to explore breathtaking and alluring islands. This pursuit of a veritable “holiday in paradise” has held a prominent position in my list of priorities for quite some time. The prospect of navigating through these diverse islands was nothing short of enticing, promising unexpected and delightful encounters.
Pre-Onboard Experience
My journey on board the cruise commenced subsequent to my arrival from Cairns. Prior to embarkation, I had the pleasure of staying 3-nights at a hotel situated in Darlinghurst, Sydney in close proximity to the cruise terminal. I had the time to wander around this famous city, Sydney’s Circular Quay and surrounding areas. Sydney is the city that I always enjoyed over the years. This international voyage, filled with anticipation and aspiration, will proved to be an unparalleled experience. The opportunity to embark on a cruise that elevates oceanic travel to unprecedented heights will truly be a remarkable privilege.

Embarking
As I stepped inside the cruise ship just before midday, following the check-in process and expedited customs clearance, I was immediately captivated by the grandeur that unfolded before me. Upon entrance, it became apparent that the cruise ship resembled a bustling shopping complex, with diverse departments showcasing everything from specialty restaurants to souvenir shops, and even travel agencies, all vying to entice and cater to the incoming passengers.

I settled in for approximately one hour, calmly observing my surroundings while awaiting the official announcement that all cabin-rooms had become available for occupancy. It is customary during most cruises for a period of mild chaos to unfold within the first thirty to sixty minutes, as passengers excitedly scurry in all directions in an attempt to find their designated cabins. As a result, the hallways and elevators tend to become congested and noisy, brimming with individuals striving to ascertain their destinations. Given my previous experiences of enduring such bustling commotion, I opted for a more serene approach this time. Instead, I chose to recline and unwind with a steaming cup of tea, patiently waiting for the ensuing pandemonium to subside. Ultimately, once the frenzy had abated, I embarked on my journey towards my assigned cabin, only to be greeted by an unexpected surprise – a substantial $100 voucher graciously provided by my esteemed travel agent.

My Oceanview Room
Upon completing the task of unpacking my solitary travel suitcase, I proceeded to unlatch the doors of my lodging quarters. The doors swung open, revealing a balcony that commanded a magnificent panorama of the Opera House and its environs. The sheer beauty of Sydney’s sights was both awe-inspiring and truly remarkable.

After settling into the cabin and mesmirising the beauty of Opera House, I proceeded to explore the cruise ship in order to familiarize myself with its layout. From my past cruise experience, it is advisable to engage in a methodical exploration of the vessel, acquainting oneself with key areas such as the main dining and promenade sections, the top deck, the swimming pool area, the main theatre, and the guest service center. Other sections of the ship can be discovered and appreciated throughout the duration of the cruise.
Life on the Sea Begins
Swiftly acquainting myself with the ship, I observed as we gradually departed from the Sydney cruise terminal, coinciding with the onset of darkness. The departure during this particular time presented an exhilarating experience, as the city lights illuminated and embellished the skyline, encompassing prominent features such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. The panoramic display from my private balcony evoked a profound sense of awe and enchantment. Sydney undoubtedly stands as one of Australia’s major metropolises, boasting a significant population and serving as a highly sought-after destination for countless global visitors. As such, it garners recognition as a “must-visit” city within the Australian context.

Days without Land
As we embarked from Sydney at 6pm and set sail towards the open sea for 5-days without land, the city of Sydney gradually came alive with vibrant neon lights, illuminating the urban landscape. The nighttime vistas of Sydney were truly captivating, and I found it difficult to tear my gaze away from the bustling city below, all from the serenity of my private balcony. Continuing our journey beyond the city, we cruised northward along Australia’s east coast, traversing the Tasman Sea for five nights.
As the cruise ship navigates the vast expanse of the open ocean, it functions as a self-contained ecosystem. This floating city caters to the varied needs of its inhabitants, encompassing everything from sustenance to waste management. Furthermore, the onboard entertainment program provides a diverse range of captivating activities, live performances, and shows, ensuring the passengers’ enjoyment and amusement throughout their seafaring journey without encountering land.

Picton, New Zealand
Picton, situated in the scenic Marlborough Region of New Zealand’s South Island, serves as the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds. Upon arrival at Picton, the captivating vista before me affirmed the allure that has drawn numerous individuals to this region. Positioned along the northern coast, the town is situated near the head of the Queen Charlotte Sound. Notably, Picton boasts two local marinas, serving as stunning testaments to the pivotal role of boating in this picturesque waterfront village.

Departing from Picton, we embarked on a captivating journey through the picturesque heart of Marlborough Sounds, eventually emerging into the dynamic convergence of the Pacific Ocean and the Taman Sea. Our vessel gracefully navigated these contrasting maritime realms, navigating us to the sheltered harbor of Wellington, the esteemed capital of New Zealand. As we sailed away from the shores of Picton, a captivating sight unfolded before us, as the distinctive hues of the waters mingled and intertwined, forming a mesmerizing panorama visible from the decks of our cruise ship.

Mo’orea, Tahiti
Moorea, formerly a quiet island, now attracts a considerable number of Western tourists due to its unspoiled and breathtaking landscapes. With its untouched natural beauty and limited tourism development, Moorea remains a hidden gem awaiting exploration.

After undertaking a brief overnight maritime journey, we reached our destination of Bora-Bora, a collection of Polynesian islands.
Bora Bora, Tahiti
Bora Bora is located in the northwest region of Tahiti. This small island is surrounded by picturesque motus, or islets, adorned with sandy shores and a vibrant turquoise lagoon protected by a coral reef. It is famous for its luxurious resorts, some of which offer elegant overwater bungalows. Bora Bora has earned a reputation as one of the most stunning, exclusive, and exotic destinations in the world. Stepping foot on this extraordinary island, I was immediately immersed in a unique realm characterized by tranquility, serenity, and uninterrupted bliss.

Embarking from French Polynesia, we commenced our journey along the renowned North Pacific Ocean route leading us to Honolulu, Oahu, which stands as the esteemed capital of Hawaii.
Honolulu, Hawaii
Upon navigating the vast seas and traversing various islands, we find ourselves finally arriving at Honolulu, our ultimate destination. This urban island holds great significance as an inseparable part of the United States, officially joining the nation as its 50th and most recent state on August 21, 1959. Praised for its awe-inspiring and picturesque beaches, Hawaii undeniably lives up to its renowned reputation. Consequently, it emerges as an exceptional choice for individuals seeking to indulge in the four quintessential elements of an ideal beach getaway: Sun, Sand, Sea, and Surf.

Having spent what felt like an eternity aboard that floating hotel known as a cruise ship for a whopping 20 days, I finally made it to the promised land of relaxation: Hawaii! And of course, like all good tourists, I made a beeline for the one and only Waikiki Beach. It’s like a magnet for sunburns and overcrowding, but hey, who am I to resist the allure of being surrounded by a sea of sunscreen-slathered strangers?
