🌏 About the Cairns & Regional Multicultural Association (CARMA) Festival

The Cairns & Regional Multicultural Association (CARMA) Festival is one of the most anticipated community events in Far North Queensland — a vibrant celebration that showcases the cultural diversity that makes Cairns so unique. Founded to promote unity, understanding, and appreciation among the region’s many cultural groups, the festival has been running for over two decades, growing bigger and brighter each year.

Each festival brings together people from around the world who now call Cairns home. The event is a colourful blend of traditional music, energetic dances, global cuisines, arts and crafts, and cultural displays. It provides an opportunity for local communities to share their heritage, talents, and stories, while encouraging visitors to experience the richness of cultures that thrive in this tropical city.

Beyond the entertainment and delicious food, the CARMA Festival also fosters a strong sense of belonging and connection. With participation from local government, Indigenous traditional leaders, community organizations, schools, and cultural groups, it stands as a proud reminder that diversity is the heart of Cairns — and that together, we are stronger, brighter, and more united. 🌺🤝🎶

For me, attending the CARMA Festival is always a highlight of the year 🌈. It’s more than just an event — it’s a joyful reminder of how beautifully diverse and connected our Cairns community truly is. Every smile, dance, and shared meal tells a story of belonging and celebration, and I always leave feeling uplifted and proud to call this multicultural city home 🏝️❤️.

🌺 A Community United in Celebration

From the moment I arrived, the air buzzed with excitement — music, laughter, and the aroma of delicious food surrounded me. People from all backgrounds came together to celebrate what makes Cairns so beautifully multicultural.

The festival grounds came alive with colour, music, and laughter as people from all walks of life gathered to celebrate multicultural Cairns.

🍜 A Feast from Around the World

The food stalls were irresistible — a mouth-watering mix of international cuisines 🍛🌮🥟. Walking through the event, I discovered food stalls representing cuisines from all corners of the world 🍜🌮🥟 — each offering a taste of home for Cairns’ multicultural residents.

    🎨 Global Arts & Crafts

Alongside the food, arts and crafts stalls displayed unique creations from different countries 🎨🧵, giving festival-goers a chance to explore traditional handicrafts, souvenirs, and artworks. Arts and crafts stalls showcased intricate beadwork, bright textiles, and handmade treasures that reflected cultures from every corner of the globe 🎨🧵.

    💃 Dancing Across Cultures

What truly mesmerized me were the performances. The stage came alive with stunning cultural performances — a highlight of the day 💃🕺. Each dance told a story of tradition, pride, and unity. Dance groups from various cultural backgrounds, all of whom now call Cairns home, took to the stage with vibrant costumes and captivating routines ✨. Each performance told a story, bringing a slice of their homeland to the heart of Cairns. The energy of the dancers was infectious, and it was impossible not to be swept up in the rhythm and colour 🎶🎭. The solo opera singer was the crowd favourite who had an incredible voice.

    🎺 Local & Community Performers

The festival wasn’t just about international acts — it was also a proud showcase of strong local talent and community spirit 🤝. The Cairns Brass Band delivered a lively performance 🎺, while church groups ⛪ and other community organizations participated, further enriching the festival’s inclusive atmosphere.
